Coyotes and foxes can be very troublesome to anyone who has livestock, chickens or small pets. Coyotes here in Iowa get up to 40 pounds and when they are that large people often think they look wolf-like, or German Shepard like. Coyotes have short fluffy tails while German Shepard do not, also coyotes tend to look fuller and fluffier while dogs tend to have slicker coats. Coyotes will kill cattle, calves, sheep, hogs and rarely horses, as well as any domestic dogs or cats they come across.

Red foxes are the size of a large cat with long fluffy tails and are easily recognized. They are a beautiful red color with black legs and ears. They can and will kill house-cats however as well as chickens and other poultry.
